My name is Andrew Reddington.
I am the new Fine Gael local councillor for the Tuam Electoral area. I am married with three young children and I work in Adult Education in Tuam. I’m from a farming background and I am actively involved in the local community. I would like to thank all of those who have supported me in the recent months to get elected. The team surrounding me have done a fantastic job to get me an impressive 1st round tally of votes for a new candidate. I wish to thank my Fine Gael colleagues who have served as mentors to me and I thank Tom McHugh who stood beside me through out it all.
I look forward to taking the next steps and joining my other colleagues who have been voted to working towards our election promises.

Training and EducationAs someone who works in Adult Education I most certainly understand the needs of the community.
More and more people are trying to train as special needs assistants, healthcare workers, and childcare workers. I know how to deliver in these areas. I aim to locate these courses at a local centralised location which will suit people who are working and want to retrain in the Tuam Municipal area. |
Agriculture
We need to support more young farmers and continue to increase incentives for young people to stay on the family farm. I would suggest that the Installation Aid for young trained farmers should be re-introduced.
Beef farmers have endured trying times in the past few years with factories essentially naming their prices. I congratulate the work the Beef Plan Movement are doing, and I will always speak up for Farmers. I will work locally to introduce the green cert. If Agriculture isn’t prioritised we will undoubtedly lose more farmers and with that the local economy will suffer. |
Childcare subsidiesI am on the Board of Management of a local crèche. I understand that parents are under severe pressure to keep childcare bills paid. It is imperative that the Government brings in more subsidies to help parents. As a father of three children aged six and under, I understand that those that are paying crèche Fees and working must be looked after. If elected as a local Councillor I will work on this immediately. We must also think of the childcare worker. They have one of
the most difficult jobs out there and we must consider that the childcare worker must be paid more for the incredibly challenging work that they do. |
